about

who we are

For more than three decades, San Joe Hospital’s roots have extended deep into the History and lives of Perumbavoor and its vicinity.
Under the vision and guidance of Provincial Superior, Rev. Sr. Mary Joseph, a small group of Nun Sisters of Fransican Clarist Congregation of Sacred Heart Province headquartered at Alwaye had initiated health care service in a small rental house at Pulluvazhy, near Perumbavoor on July 16, 1978.
The need based growth of the hospital widened the scope of the hospital's operations and subsequently, in December 08th 1981 under the guidance and leadership of altruistic pioneers - Rev. Sr. Leyola (Administrator) and Rv. Sr. Jose Maria (Medical Superintendent) the hospital established itself at its present site in Perumbavoor, which was the first established health care facility with the vision to bring health and healing to this small but thickly populated town and its vicinity where there are more than 200 saw mills / modern rice mills / plywood industries, in which frequent employment injuries were being occurred.
Over the next two decades, the hospital transformed dramatically with the addition of new patient wings, surgical suites, delivery rooms and doctors’ lounge. In the decades that followed, we continually advanced the level of care available to our patients. We were one of the first Super Specialty Hospitals in Perumbavoor who facilitate Joint Replacement Surgeries, high risk Neuro, Spinal, Ortho, Maxillofacial, E.N.T., Gynec, Uro Surgeries by significantly providing life – saving care in proactive manner.
As we look to the future of health care, we’ve begun to rethink and reshape our role as a hospital. Beyond offering best available treatments for injury and illness, we’ve initiated the wellness programs that educate people on how to avoid the need for medical care completely. Through various partnerships, we extend our healing mission beyond our hospital doors, and create a greater impact in the collective health of the community of remote rural and tribal areas and people who surrounds us.
Throughout our history, our pioneering spirit has never waned nor has our mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ. What began as a journey toward spiritual and physical health for a grateful few is today a promise of healing mind, body and spirit to thousands of people.
